Bollywood in Northeast – films shot in Northeast India

by May 16, 2018Trouvaille

Bollywood is an indispensable part of India. A number of the movies are shot in exotic locales of India as well as abroad. But northeast India has been given a cold shoulder by the Bollywood producers. The reason seems to the remote location and closeness to the border area. Lack of luxurious resorts also seems to be another reason for it.

There are quite a number of films that are based on the northeastern states but have been shot somewhere else. Films like Dil Se, Tango Charlie and of late Mary Kom and Jagga Jassos were shot elsewhere, even though based in the northeastern state. Even though there are a handful of films that have been shot in northeast India. Sikkim is an exception though, with more number of films shot there. Here is a list of films that were shot in the Seven Sister states.

Sikkim had its share of tryst with Bollywood more that it’s Seven Sisters. A few Bollywood movies shot in Sikkim are Jewel Thief (1967), Road to Sikkim (1969) and Uff Yeh Mohabbat (1997). Remember the snowy locales of Divya Khosla’s Yaariyan? The film had Sikkim’s Lachen, Changu Lake and the Ban Jhakri as its location. Barfi, that was extensively shot in Darjeeling also had our hero Ranbir Kapoor on the streets of Gangtok.
